Hydrovac Operators




  • Load, unload, tarp as needed, ensuring cargo safety/security
  • Perform daily safety and maintenance checks, cleaning equipment as scheduled and/or required, ensuring equipment is safely and securely stored while ensuring equipment is ready for next day
  • Responsible for the successful completion of hydro excavation projects including: utility line exposure, debris removal, slot trenching and digging, excavation of sensitive underground piping and cables
  • Responsible for the successful completion of flushing service projects including: sewer lines, storm sewers, coverts, catch basins
  • Operate Hydro-Vac combo flushing trucks and equipment in a safe and professional manner
  • Set up and inspect grounding and/or bonding procedures for Hydro-Vac operation
  • Ensure all Hydro-Vac truck equipment and components are in good working condition at all times
  • Perform pre and post trip inspections, follow company policies and procedures for routine maintenance, perform general housekeeping to ensure units are operating properly
  • Document all required log books, hours and equipment maintenance records
  • Responsible for the safety of everyone nearby when operating machinery/equipment
  • Participate in tailboard meetings, including identification of potential work site hazards
  • Report potential hazards to Foremen and construction crews and document hazards & near misses
  • Clean, and safely and securely stores equipment as scheduled and/or required
  • Perform all work in accordance with company, industry, provincial and federal standards and legislation
  • Assist fellow crew members wherever required (may be manual labour and/or be outside your ticketed trade) to get the job done
  • Operate machinery in a safe manner, adhering to applicable traffic standards


  • Equipment operator trade certification(s)
  • MUST have a minimum three years documented experience operating a similar vehicle.
  • Clear driver’s abstracts – perfect condition
  • 2-3 years of experience as an equipment operator – hydrovacs
  • Valid DZ license
  • Powerline hazard awareness training
  • Transportation of dangerous goods training is an asset
  • CSTS – Construction safety certificate is an asset
  • Current First Aid Certification is an asset
  • Limits of approach is an asset


  • Work outdoors – perhaps in some extreme climates
  • Travel and work in various locations across Ontario
  • Accommodate different work schedules and shifts based on project requirements
  • Perform physically demanding work (able to lift 50+ pounds)
  • Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Be honest, hard-working and trustworthy
